Eolas ar ár tionscanamh do START
Roimh na Cásca, dhear Rang 6 'clinical trial' i gcomhair an “START Competition”. An cheist a bhí againn ná ' Does listening to the same music while studying for and completing a test improve your scores?’ Chabhraigh Rang 4 agus Rang 5 linn. Chuir muid iad i ngrúpaí, agus bhí cúpla grúpa ag éisteacht le ceol agus grúpa eile gan ceol.
Buíochas le Dia, cuireadh ar an ngearrliosta muid. Fuaireamar amach go mbeadh an rang ag dul go NUIG ar an Aoine seo, 17ú lá de Bhealtaine. Beidh dhá scoil eile ann chomh maith agus ar an lá gheobhaimid amach cé a bhuaigh an comórtas. Beimid ag fágáil na scoile ar a 9r.n. agus ag teacht ar ais thart ar a 5i.n.
Táimid ag iarraidh buíochas ollmhór a ghabháil leis na páistí agus na múinteoirí Rang 4 agus 5 a bhí sásta páirt a ghlacadh ann. Táimid ag súil go mór leis an Aoine! Is féidir tuilleadh a léamh agus an tionscadal a fheiceáil san alt seo:

Rang 6 designed a clinical trial before Easter to enter into the START Competition, organised by NUI Galway. The research question we had was ' Does listening to the same music while studying for and completing a test improve your scores?’ Rang 4 and 5 helped us by participating in our trial. We put them into groups, some groups listened to music and our control group had no music. We were delighted to hear that we were shortlisted. We found out that we would be going to NUIG this Friday 17th of May. Two other schools are in the final also, we will find out who the winner is at the awards ceremony on the day. We will be leaving the school at 9am and returning at around 5pm. We would like to sincerely thank the children and teachers of Rang 4 and 5 who were happy to participate. We are really excited for Friday...fingers crossed!! You can read more about our project in this article:

Comhghairdeas Rang a 6 agus Iníon Ní Fhlannagáin ar bhuachtáil an dara áit sa tír i START
Ar an Aoine seo caite, chuaigh Rang 6 go NUIG i nGaillimh. Bhíomar curtha ar ghearrliosta le dhá scoil eile don Chomórtas START. (Schools Teaching Awareness of Randomised Trials) Phiocamar an cheist 'Does listening to music while studying and completing a test improve your test scores?' Bhíomar ag freastal ar cheardlanna don mhaidin ar fad. Fuaireamar DNA ó bhananaí agus chonaiceamar go leor ainmhithe difriúil ar nós nathreacha, coiníní, domhan alla agus go leor rudaí eile. Roimh dheireadh an lae rinne siad cúpla pléascadh dúinn. D'éirigh linn an dara háit a bhaint amach sa chomórtas, bhíomar ar bís! Bhí lá den scoth againn.
Last Friday, Rang 6 went to NUI Galway. Our clinical trial was shortlisted with two other schools for the finals of the START Competition. We chose the question 'Does listening to music while studying and completing a test improve your test scores?' We attended science workshops in the morning time. We extracted DNA from bananas and saw a lot of interesting animals such as snakes and tarantulas. Towards the end of the day, scientists performed an experiment with explosions. We came in 2nd place in the country, we were delighted! We had a fantastic day.
